Going into their seventh game of the season (a total of eight games) the Comets were tied for first place in the IMSL (Independent Middle School League) with Horizon Prep. NMY was kicking off. Tobin booted the ball all the way through the endzone for a touch back. NMY quickly put a stop to Horizons first drive, and got the ball back. On NMY’s first drive they were held to almost no yards until third down when Tobin got a handoff that he took all the way back for the first TD of the day. NMY tacked on the extra point to make the score 7-0. After that, there was no scoring for the rest of the half. In the second half NMY got the kickoff. On second down David (the QB) threw a long bomb to Max in the endzone. NMY couldn’t get the extra point this time though. Making the score 13-0 NMY. Horizon got the kickoff and took it all the way back just short of half of the field. They gained some quick yards with a few runs and then finally scored a touch down with a long pass over the NMY defense. They quickly tacked on the extra point to make the score 13-7. Horizon kicked the ball out of bounds on the kickoff so NMY had the ball in great field position. After a few short passes David ran the ball up the sideline for the TD but NMY couldn’t get the extra point, so the score was then 19-7. Horizon had the ball with little time to go, down by two scores. NMY’s star safety Tobin had to leave the game with a tight hamstring. With a new safety Horizon decided to throw a deep pass to the endzone. On their first attempt they scored a long touch down and missed the extra point to make the score 19-13. After that the clock ran out giving the Comets the win and first place in the IMSL.
